ActivityWatch - Issues with using in windows 11

I faced issues with running installer in windows 11. It was blocked many times and later I downloaded zip and extracted. When I tried to run the application again, microsoft defender kept blocking me. When I chose to run anyway, mcafee realtime scanning quarantined it completely not able to start at all.

Is this all expected ??

I don’t think I’ve had any issues with Windows Defender. Where exactly did you download it from?

If you are indeed running an official build and an anti-malware application is incorrectly classifying ActivityWatch as malware, you need to submit feedback to that anti-malware application and/or learn how to permit incorrectly classified applications to run.

I’m not sure if this is helpful, but here’s to hoping!

When I ran into a similar issue recently, my IT team sent me this:

Before extracting the ZIP file or attempting the installation:

  1. Right-click the file and select Properties.
  2. Under the General tab, look for an Unblock checkbox near the bottom.
  3. If it’s there, check Unblock and click Apply.
  4. Then extract the ZIP file and try installing the program again.

As a security precaution, Windows sometimes flags files downloaded from the internet as “potentially unsafe” it seems.

Idk if this will help with McAfee, bc that’s not what we use here, but I figured it was worth sharing just in case!
